The Finline Story

Kieran Finane

Relocating with a young family to the beautiful, picturesque village of Emo in Co. Laois, they opened their factory doors in November 1979. Selling through leading retailers across Ireland, Finline’s handcrafted furniture was introduced to the Irish furniture market. Throughout the 1980’s Finline Furniture began to grow and expand each year, becoming a fully established manufacturing business in the heart of Ireland.

Finline People

The Sofa Makers – From The Beginning

Founders Kieran and Bridget Finane established Finline in 1979 after noticing a lack of quality, Irish-made sofas and chairs on the market. With the support of their friends and family, the husband-and-wife team started designing what they had been looking for to furnish their own home; comfortable, well-designed furniture that would last a lifetime. Since then, their sons Ciaran and Kilian have joined Finline as the business embarks on its second chapter.

Finline Craftsmanship

The Finline Team

Over the years, our team has grown with our collections and we’ve added nearly eighty craftspeople to the production line in our Emo factory, with some even passing skills they’ve developed at Finline between the generations. From dedicated frame makers and fabric cutters, to a talented line-up of seamstresses, upholsterers and cushion fillers – not to mention the skilled sales and management teams – the Finline family has over 500 years of combined experience in the furniture industry.

Our Materials

From the outset, the Finline family has been dedicated to making furniture with care and integrity. Our founder Kieran has travelled across Europe sourcing quality, exclusive fabrics directly from the mills. Each one brings a unique sensibility to the Finline collection. All of our frames are hand carved and assembled nearby in Emo using kiln-dried beech – a hard wood and the best type of timber for upholstered frames.
