Caring For Your Furniture
We have over 40 years of experience designing and manufacturing sofas and chairs. Here are some of the things we’ve learned over that time to help you care for your piece of Finline Furniture, ensuring it stays comfortable and looks great for many years to come.
Furniture Care
Flipping and Rotating Cushions
Avoid Sunlight and Direct Heat
Protect the fabric of your sofa or chair by positioning it away from direct sunlight to avoid the deterioration and fading of the fabric. Drawing the blinds or curtains when appropriate will also help. Be careful of open fires and radiators.
Get Comfortable
Try not to sit on the edge of the seat cushion as this can cause premature wearing. Avoid sitting on the arms of your sofa or chair as they were not designed to carry an adult’s body weight. Only use them to rest your arms or lay your head down.

Fabric Care
Cleaning
A build-up of dirt and dust will rapidly increase the wearing down of the fabric and contribute to the colour fading. To avoid this, regularly clean your sofa or chair by using the soft-brush-upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaner. We highly recommend in-situ professional upholstery cleaning every 2-3 years to keep your sofa or chair in peak condition. Contact a professional upholstery cleaning company for emergency stain removal. We also recommend buying 2 – 3 meters extra fabric at the time of ordering, in case of an emergency, you will always have it on hand for us to assist with a repair/replacement part.
Fabric & Leather Samples
You may have been given or sent a fabric sample from our showroom to view at home. Your finished fabric or leather may differ slightly due to natural and dye-batch variations and because each piece of Finline Furniture is individually handcrafted. These samples are a guide for a colour and texture reference only.
Creasing, Fading & Dyes
Velvets, linens, and cottons can crease. This is a natural characteristic of the fabric and will not affect the materials lasting performance over many years. Please be very careful if your sofa or chair has been upholstered in a lighter toned fabric. Heavily dyed clothing like jeans can discolour the fabric (dye-transfer), especially if they are damp. If this happens, contact an upholstery cleaning specialist immediately.
Velvets & Chenilles
These beautiful fabrics can be very delicate. Most velvets sold in Finline have a polyester blend making them more durable. Try using a velvet-brush to remove any marks over time. It is important to remember that marking, crushing, or flattening of the pile is a natural characteristic of the material, rather than a flaw and should be expected over time.
Wools
Wool is a natural fibre fabric that is both strong and durable, as well as being fire resistant and hypoallergenic. Always use a cold, damp muslin, or cloth to wipe away spills on wool. As with any natural fibre, wool can pill or bobble over time. This is a natural characteristic of the fabric and does not indicate wear and tear or any fault with the fabric. It is the loosest parts of the yarn coming away. Generally, this might happen for an initial period but lessens over time. An upholstery de-fuzzer will help reduce this effect, these can be bought inexpensively online.
Leather Care
Leather is a natural product, with individual characteristics that make each piece unique and special. No two pieces of leather are the same and these differences give leather its beauty, distinguishing it from synthetic alternatives. Although it is a highly resilient and durable material, be careful to avoid contact with sharp objects such as sharpedged toys, buckles, studs on jeans, jewellery, and domestic pets. Avoid exposing leather to direct sunlight or heat as the material will fade, like any other fabric. At Finline Furniture, we only use ‘genuine leather’, which naturally stretches and ages over time. Genuine leather wears in rather than wearing out. The unique qualities and imperfections of each piece should be enjoyed and appreciated over the years.
Cleaning Leather
Use a clean, dry cloth to wipe down leather sofas regularly. Using a microfiber cloth or cotton muslin will help prevent dust from building up. For stubborn dust, dampen the cloth with distilled water. Never allow water to soak into leather, so make sure the cloth is not soaking wet. Attend to liquid or food spills immediately. Hair products like gel and oil, or animal hair can stain leather if there is consistent contact with the same place on your sofa. Clean this area more regularly with a damp cloth.
Feeding Leather
Reupholstery
If you move to a new house, redecorate your room, or just want a change, we can recover your sofa or chair at anytime. Please send us a photograph of the piece you would like to recover, and we will revert with an approximate quote of how much this will cost.

As part of our commitment to quality, we offer a 20 Year Frame Guarantee on all Finline-made orders placed from 1st January 2017 in any of our showrooms. This guarantee is in addition to your statutory rights and applies to domestic use only.
