Trends to Watch in 2016
With a new year just round the corner, what interior design trends can you expect to see in 2016 and how can you integrate these into your home? Visit the showrooms of our furniture stores across Ireland to get some great ideas and don’t forget our sale is coming. But here’s a few thoughts to put you right on trend!
Colour Me Blue
Hot on the heels of steely greys and silvers come royal blues and navy. If you’ve already introduced greys into your living room, then this is good news as deep blues will co-ordinate well with your existing colour-palette. If you’re looking for an accent colour then bright yellows and mustard contrast beautifully with these dark blues and offer a happy visual lift to any interior.
Another accent colour that contrasts very well with greys and blues is pink – and we’re not talking baby pink here; we’re looking at vibrant pinks and cerise. We’re finding that consumers are moving towards more confident, strong colour in general and deep pink is growing in popularity.
Tweed on Trend
Plaids and tweeds are back with a bang and they add rich texture and colour to any interior. Traditional tartan dominated by red may not be everyone’s cup of tea but there are many more muted luxurious options out there, from subtle Italian textures through to sumptuous Donegal tweeds. Check out our Platinum collection in our fabric options where you’ll see some options or talk to the professional interior design team in each of our showrooms.
Stand-alone furniture like love seats and statement chairs are becoming more popular and often these are done in strong accent colours or statement florals to really add vibrancy and a splash of colour to an interior. In fact vibrant colours are big news; maybe it’s a trend rebellion against the 50 shades of muted greys of 2015!
If you’ve decided you’re going with a statement chair or seat, consider the type of interior it has to fit into and where it will be located. Is the room formal or casual, contemporary or luxurious – while the purpose of the piece is to stand-out, it should add some intrigue to the existing interior, not detract from it.
Bringing the Outside In
With more focus on sustainability and the environment, there’s a move towards natural fabrics, cotton, linen, knits, rattans, house plants and craft accessories. Knitted accessories and angora cushions add texture and are getting bolder as they are being given more visibility in living rooms than in the past. Outdoor colours that will work well indoors are also on-trend and this not only refers to the deeper blues we mentioned earlier but also muted mossy greens and heathers will be popular in 2016, along with aqua shades of blue and green.
