1. Research online
When you decide to buy furniture, whether it’s a first time purchase, or time to replace a well-loved item that’s beyond its prime, research is called for. You can choose to spend numerous hours visiting furniture stores, or you can go online to our company website www.finlinefurniture.ie . There you will be able to see the models we make, the various shapes and sizes, fabric choices, finishes etc. This can be an excellent starting point. You might like what we do, and if so , then we are ready for step 2.
2. Do Your Homework !
If I may give you one piece of advice, it would be to do some measuring at home, prior to calling to see us in Dublin, Cork or in our Factory Showrooms in Co. Laois. If your current sofa is too big / too small, measure it, and you will be able to gauge what will fit into that space.
A lot of customers visiting our stores come equipped with a drawing of their room, marking where windows are, where there is an alcove, a door etc. It is of great benefit to both you and us at Finline because it saves a lot of time and gives us a greater idea of the space that is being furnished.
If you are keeping items like a carpet or curtains, consider bringing a cushion or a carpet sample with you when you visit our showrooms. It will be a great help when trying to match new items to your existing furnishings. If you have a good camera on your phone, or have an i-pad, take some photo’s !
3. Visit the Showroom
Now that you are organized, it’s time to visit one of our beautiful showrooms ! Here you will see the images on-screen come to life, in the form of superbly made beautiful furniture.
We will make you very welcome and offer you a tea or coffee (if it’s not too busy!) and talk you through the various models. As you tell us what you like, and what you don’t like, it will help us find the sofa, chair or corner sofa, that most fit’s you, and your room. The more information you give us the easier it is for us to help you create the style you envisage in your mind for your room.
4. Choose model and shape you like
This is, I think, the most important decision you have to make when purchasing handmade furniture. Your head may be turned in a showroom with all the lovely fabrics & the clever colour combinations, but bear in mind that these colours and combinations can be applied to the model you choose. The model that suits you & your home. We have models with low arms, high arms, narrow arms, legs, skirts, deep buttons, high backs, low seats, high seats, soft seats – choose the one that you find meets your needs both in terms of style and comfort.
Once you have narrowed down your options for the shape & model of sofa or chair you like, it’s now time to consider fabric. We at Finline Furniture have divided our fabric ranges into 4 main ranges / collections ;
Bronze , Silver, Gold & Platinum. These are simply price bands. The price of the item you choose will depend on which Fabric Collection you choose to use.
6. Bespoke Furniture options
When purchasing from Finline Furniture, there are numerous Bespoke Furniture Options to choose from.
Each model has its own standard depth, but within reason, we can make most sofa’s longer or shorter, with higher backs , different legs.

We can also use a feather & fibre filling, or a complete fibre filling should you wish to have it. All back cushions are fibre filled, without exception. Our helpful sales staff will walk you through the various options you can choose from to tailor each piece to your needs. Some options will incur additional costs.
7. Fabric collections
When you look through our fabric options, there are some fabrics that you could use in an everyday family room, possibly something more hard wearing and robust. Then we have fabrics that would set the scene in a more formal room. In the showrooms, each model is tagged with a price list, so you will be able to see very clearly what the price is for any item, in any fabric collection.
We at Finline Furniture have divided our fabric ranges into 4 main ranges / collections; Bronze , Silver, Gold & Platinum. These are simply price bands. The price of the item you choose will depend on which fabric Collection you choose to use.
Every piece that we produce is handcrafted using the same components regardless of price – quality is always at the forefront of what we do. We price everything based on the fabric collection that you decide to cover your sofa or chair in.
9. Final Check before you Order
You’ve done your research, been to the showroom, tried all the sofa’s / chairs / corner sofas, and selected your fabrics, and you are ready to place an order, BUT…..there is a niggling doubts about sizing ? Now is the time to consider making a sofa or chair template from newspaper.
Sounds complicated, but it’s very easy.
If we say the sofa measures 86” wide by 39” deep, simply tape newspapers together to the sizes, and lay it down on the floor.
Now you have the “footprint” of the sofa or chair, and you will be able to judge what space the piece takes up, and whether it will fit your room.
It also allows you to see what your spaces are at the sides or around your sofa / chair, so you can work out if there is enough room to move around, whether a lamp table will fit, or what size rug you may need.
If the template indicates that your chosen piece is too big, simply fold back the newspaper to the desired length, and you will see what will fit your space.
If the template indicates that your chosen piece is too small, you could add some extra newspaper to the template, and that will show you how much you might need to lengthen a piece, or it may indicate that the Large sofa will fit where you thought that the Small sofa would fit.
Many of our customers have made up templates, and they will always tell us that it was more worthwhile than they expected.
10. Production & Lead times
The standard lead time for a sofa or chair is usually 6 / 8 weeks. Each piece is made to order by our experienced staff.
Our sales staff have a very good idea of our production lead times during the year and they can fluctuate depending on the time of year. When it comes to ordering we will be able to give you a clearer idea of your lead time.
